Life lesson #1: You never make it alone

Updated: Jun 25, 2020

Today I share with you an extremely important lesson. As the title goes, you never make it alone.

Most of the achievements you experience in life result from your hard work AND the support you received along the way. What does that mean? At any given point in your journey, you will work with people, get input/advice/help and overcome many obstacles. Have you had moments in your life when you feel as everything is over and someone lends you a hand or simply listens to you as you let everything out?

It is those small things that help get you closer to where you want. It could be anyone; your best friend, a family member, a colleague, a professor, your pet, or a person you talked to during your commute to work. There is always someone supporting you and you must never forget to appreciate that.

Team work >>> Individual work

From my personal journey so far, I realized that the more people I work with, the better the end result was. Of course hard work is important and you should be proud of your achievements but always show gratitude to those that you worked with and helped you, especially during tough times.

Here is a great quote from the book Outliers by Malcolm Gladwell:

"no one—not rock stars, not professional athletes, not software billionaires, and not even geniuses — ever makes it alone."

Malcolm talks about the various patterns observed in successful individuals. Here are some things I took away from the book:

  • Nobody makes it alone

  • Being able to seize an opportunity is a skill

  • You have to change to get "lucky"

  • Outwork others in one aspect (10,000 hours till you become an expert)

By the way 10,000 hours = 20 hrs/wk for 10 years! Success doesn't come overnight, that is for sure :)

Taka's Tip Top Tips

The next time you accomplish something amazing, think about the support you received in the process, thank them, and let them know you appreciate them in person. It goes a long way :)

If you want to read further about stories and patterns of successful individuals, click on the image** to purchase a copy of the book.

**This is an affiliated link meaning if you decide to buy the book through this link, I will receive 4.5% ($0.35) as income. I hope to run and maintain the website which costs $150/yr :)

Thanks for sticking around! Remember, take baby steps and good things will happen eventually. Be yourself and let's get moving!

Yours sincerely,

Taka
